See below for more details!

Where?  First Baptist Church, Starkville(Children’s Building)

Who? Special needs children and their siblings (12 and under)

Cost?  FREE

Anything else I need to know?  Please bring your own bag.  Parents will need to send supper with their children due to dietary concerns (or feed your children before arrival).  We will provide snacks during our time together (i.e. popcorn, goldfish, animal crackers, pretzels). Theme: True North

Each of us have a race to run. Many times the difficulty is figuring out which direction we are to run. You’ll discover your true north as we dive into the life of Joseph. His life is a serious of peaks and valleys, but through it all he discovers that God is with him, and even the obstacles he faces are shaping him into the man that God designed for him to be.

Theme Verse: Genesis 39:21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Starting Point for Kids Week 4

Starting Point for Kids, formerly advertised as I’m A Christian Now, is an in depth and comprehensive study for helping children (Grades 1-6) understand the decision they have made and what it means to live a Christian life. This class is designed for children who have made recent professions of Faith – this includes those who have not yet been baptized and those who have.

Topics covered include: Baptism, The Lord’s Supper, Being a church member, Following God through one’s actions and Developing a quiet time.

We have found that children feel less pressured and are more open to discussion in a class setting. Much like Starting Point is the membership class for adults, Starting Point for Kids is catered to help children understand what it means to follow Christ and be a part of the Body of Christ.

This class will meet during the Sunday School hour (9:45 am) during September. If you need to miss a Sunday, you can make it up with Leah Frances at another time.

D/Group Connect

D/Group Connect

What is a D-Group? A D-Group is a closed group, rather than an open group. Community Groups and Bible studies are usually open groups (or they should be); that is, they are open to anyone and everyone who would like to attend. A D-Group is, by design, closed to a handful of people. A person joins the group by invitation only. The recommend size is 3-5 people (including the leader).

Second, the purpose of a D-Group is completely different. While Community Groups and Bible studies exist for the purposes of growth and fellowship, they have an underlying additional purpose: evangelism. Community Groups are designed to reach lost people by getting them involved in the group. A D-Group, in contrast, consists of believers who desire a deeper walk with Christ. It is not evangelistic in its form or function, but in its fruit: it makes disciples, who then make disciples.

Lastly, the setting of the D-Group is completely different. It is the shift from a lecture atmosphere with one teacher facilitating a discussion of a room full of students to an intimate, accountable relationship with a handful of like-minded people. This blueprint, sketched by Jesus Christ through His personal example, is how discipleship is accomplished in the lives of believers, and, ultimately, within the local church. When this plan is followed, those involved will participate in three dynamics that result in a growth in their personal lives, as well as in the Kingdom: community, accountability, and multiplication.

 Women’s Bible Study

Join with other women to study the art of forgiveness: extending grace to yourself and others in both life trauma and the small hurts we face every day. Dealing with broken friends and family as a broken person can wound you in ways you barely notice individually, but together they can badly hinder your walk with the Lord. This six-week study with Nancy Wax will bring to light the micro-bitterness you carry from everyday emotional wounds, and it will help you to learn to choose forgiveness in both the big and the little things. Starting September 11 at noon in the Ray Building, room 305.

Theme: Filtered
Theme Description: Before you share that picture of you and your friends you have to find the perfect filter. The filter changes the feel of the picture. It changes how people will see you and whoever else is in the photo. We also see life through filters. When we look at our friends (and enemies), our parents, our math teacher, and even ourselves we see it all through a filter. Join us as we discover together that God has given us a filter in order that we can best see others and ourselves.

Bible Drill Kick-off

  • 2nd Floor of the Children’s Building (map)

Registration for Bible Drill 2017-2018

What is bible drill? It is a program designed to help motivate children to want to increase their knowledge of the Bible with the added element of competition.

Who can participate? Any 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grader

When does bible drill class meet? • We will have a Kick-Off on August 25th with a short parent meeting at 5:30 PM and activities for children until 10 PM. • We will meet regularly on Sunday afternoons at 4pm on the 2nd Floor of the Children’s Building.

What will my child learn in Bible Drill Class? • Students will increase their knowledge of the Bible. • Students will learn the names of the books of the bible in the proper order and be able to locate them in his / her bible. • Students will memorize 25 verses and their references. • Students will memorize the titles and references of 10 key passages and be able to locate the passage in his / her bible.

Will my child need to practice / study outside of bible drill class? Yes. Your child will learn a lot during the bible drill class; however, he / she will need to practice at home. This does not require a large amount of time, but it does take effort.

How you can help: • Be proactive in working with your child on the weekly memorization schedule. • Work on Books of the Bible and Key passages while driving in the car. • Spend a few minutes each night quizzing your child by using the scripture card.

When are the drills? Drills will be held in April at three levels: Church (April 18), Associational (April 22 @ Calvary Baptist Church), and State (April 26 @ FBC Starkville).

How much does Bible Drill cost? This year, we are asking families to pay $25. This will cover expenses and meals for the Sundays that Bible Drill will meet at 4 PM with the seasonal adult study meeting at 5:30 PM (October 15-November 12 and the January Bible Study).
